Clyfford Still, a leader in the era of Abstract Expressionism developed a unique and powerful technique in these organic color field paintings. These have been providing me with some great inspiration for ikat-like interpretations.
We were at the Clyfford Still Museum for the 2nd time over the weekend and when i got to his later works, Ikat popped into my mind once again. Actually, the 5th painting you posted has a very similar design and coloring to a top I got at Anthropologie a year or two ago. The question is, did Stills see any ikat designs? His works are amazing.
