Art | The Science of Sleep

Hypnopompic | Kustaa Saksi

Have you ever experienced the state of sensory confusion between sleep and wakefulness? Amsterdam based Finnish designer, Kustaa Saksi, references this state, known as Hypnopompic, in his latest exhibition of the same name. Mixing dreams with reality, Saksi creates a surreal world with detailed textiles woven with a jacquard loom using mohair, alpaca wool, cotton, phosphate and metallic threads. Known for his abstract landscapes, Saksi doesn’t disappoint providing us with a radiant universe of organic shapes and crawling creatures in his playful and multi-sensory works.
