The Field House

Longfellows

Last week, our good friend Brian Paquette of BP Interiors took me around to the cool spots in Seattle. Each and every one of these places was a perfect respresentation of the current mega-trend of pre-industrial Americana. The most extreme example was The Field House, in the ultra-hip Ballard neighborhood. The Field House is modeled after an old-timey general store, complete with cast-iron skillets, eggs from a local farmer, home-made jams, and of course 80 dollar scented candles and 200 dollar APC-knockoff jeans. The store is the latest from the owners of eponymous menswear boutique Blackbird, and Blackbird Candy Shoppe. So, if you haven’t jumped on the bandwagon yet and you’re planning a trip to Seattle, don’t forget to wear your flannel, some expensive dirty jeans, Red Wing boots, bring an axe or two, and check out these places:

Shoppe-ing:
The Field House: Get your bird calls, hand-dipped candles, and frying pans here.

Blackbird: Hip and expensive men’s clothing, fragrance, shoes. (The candy shoppe is next door.)

Grub:
Smith: The food is delicious, but the decor is a bit over-the-top, with taxidermy and framed pictures of presidents everywhere.

Oddfellows Cafe: Coffee and food are also amazing, decor is understated and authentically weathered. The light coming through in the morning was delightful. Check out this website, pretty cool.
