Runway | AW14 Mens Paris Print Trends
TrendsPart three of our four part print coverage on the men’s shows brings us to Paris where we continue to see many directions repeated. Much like in Milan, plaids get a make-over with blown up window pane looks, glowing edges and distressed treatments. Meanwhile, remarks are tossed about to create subtle details like at Dior Homme or loud statements. Instead of florals, designers take a cue from nature using the leaf motif in scroll-like interpretations. Stripes, a staple in menswear, receive an injection of color and appear either in vertical pinstripe form or in large, wide, horizontal lines. Geometrics turn tribal and take us on a trip around the world with graphic and bold shapes. Choose between saturated shades or stick to classic black and white for a sophisticated effect. Surprisingly, conversational prints appear in varying themes from Carven’s arty scribble to Kenzo’s tool toss, Raf Simons’ moon collages to Paul Smith’s music and animal motifs, which lighten up the autumn/winter collections.
