Runway | AW14 Mens New York Print Trends
TrendsThe last part of our print trend coverage for the menswear collections comes via New York. Much like London, Paris, and Milan, plaids reign supreme. However, NYC brings a few more variations such as Duckie Brown’s mixed print interpretation or DKNY’s hand painted 50s look. Stripes also appear as loud, vertical statements or subtler, thin, horizontal lines. Texture prints range from artistic watercolor washes to splotchy, camo styles which contrast with the hard edged, color block prints found primarily in shades of grey.
Stumped on how to move forward with your print designs? Choose a trend direction and begin designing based off this theme. Then, try adding in subtle twists to make the designs feel fresh. For example, plaid prints can be so traditional in form yet, as we’ve seen, designers are mixing them up in new ways to offer interpretations that are original. Play with scale, combine print styles, or simply get out your watercolors and create some beautiful textures. A print collection will appear before you know it.
