Carefully composed, the hyper real paintings of New Zealand artist Karl Maughan show extreme control as each blade of grass or leaf is recreated and arranged to form a surreal garden. After relocating to London, Maughan missed the lush landscapes of his native country and began documenting nature to reinvent later in his studio. The resulting works explode with color and a photographic-like clarity. For SS11, Maughan’s work was transformed into a psychedelic pattern for Stolen Girlfriends Club.
