Dazzle Camouflage consists of patterns of geometric shapes in contrasting colors. It intends to mislead the eye as to an objects exact location.

Created by artist Norman Wilkinson, the technique was used on many ships during WWI as a way to optically confuse the enemy.

The ship’s graphic pattern inspired artist Edward Wadsworth‘s work in 1919.

Perhaps Barbara Gongini looked to the dazzling technique a century later when designing her Spring 2016 collection.
