Charles Burchfield

Transcendental landscapes of derelict buildings and other-worldly plant life are the subject matter for most of Charles Burchfield’s work. However, in the 1920s Burchfield also created wallpaper designs in his preferred medium of watercolor. These deco patterns retain the nature theme found running throughout the rest of his work but maintain a more mass market appeal. Large leafed vines twine their way around florals while thin limbed grasses appear to sway slowly in the breeze. Above are a selection of his wallpaper designs as well as a landscape work which could easily be the home of Boo Radley.
