Steel Magnolias

The other day, I was at Urban Outfitters, which was spilling over with cabbage rose prints. Forever 21 and Topshop are similarly in love with this trend. Then, I happened to watch ‘Steel Magnolias’ (made in 1989 and set in the South), and lo and behold, those roses are blooming all over the bosoms of Olympia Dukakis, Julia Roberts, Sally Field, and various extras. There was also a considerable amount of plaid in the film, which is another current mega-trend. And so I place our current nostalgic longings to the late eighties, early nineties. Perhaps when we look back at aughties fashion, the biggest overarching theme will be nostalgia.
