Last Days of Summer
InspirationMy dear friend, Miss KK, has been visiting for the last week. In honor of her visit and to celebrate the last days of summer, we threw a little tea party. Fresh baked scones and cucumber sandwiches, from our garden bounty, made a delicious mid afternoon meal. The classic Blue Willow china, a personal favorite, looked stunning when combined with the orange and yellow nasturiums also picked from the garden. Following the tea, we sipped on a selection of Lindemans Lambic Framboise and Pimm’s Cups while enjoying the last rays of summer sun.
The Willow pattern that is seen today was designed by Thomas Minton in England around 1780. At that time, the craze for collecting Eastern inspired objects was at its height in Europe and this pattern quickly became a favorite. Typically presented in cobalt blue, this design can also be found in other shades of blue, as well as brown and black. Wedgewood released a modernized version by Robert Dawson a few years ago which goes to show the continued popularity of this timeless pattern.
