Film | Coco Chanel & Igor Stravinsky

It’s not new but I just watched it, the movie about the torrid affair between Coco Chanel and Igor Stravinsky.   It starts off in Paris with the Ballet Russe performance, The Rite, accompanied by Stravinsky’s music.  The performance is so jarring and modern,  that much of the audience walks out.  Coco Chanel, however, remains transfixed, an island among chaos dressed in one of her signature white dresses.  Later on, the Russian Revolution has left Stravinsky and his family destitute and exiled in Paris.  Coco steps in and offers up her palatial new villa to the family, and shortly after they move in, she and Igor begin their affair while his wife, ill with consumption, transcribes his music in the next room.   Despite Coco’s (and Igor’s) seemingly non-existent moral code or regard for others, her taste in interiors and of course fashion is exquisite and stark.  Each room is an art deco study on black and white, with patterns mixed in interesting ways, and still looking quite relevant today. Coco’s outfits also look modern and gorgeous and I kept wondering how accurate the sets and costumes were.  I never did find the answer but if anyone knows, please comment here!
