Ayumi Takahashi

Illustrator, Ayumi Takahashi, now calls New York home but her route to get there was quite circuitous. Born in China but raised in Japan, Takahashi studied at the Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, California, as well as in London at Central St. Martins, before landing in our rainy city of Portland, Oregon for a spell. Her constant traveling doesn’t seem to have affected Takahashi’s creative output. If anything, it’s help to enhance her visual repository. Her pattern rich illustrations capture women in studied poses with flat color applied in a paint-by-number manner. Large, floral motifs make a constant appearance throughout her work and reflect Takahashi’s ability to cross disciplines into textile design. Her clients include Coca Cola China, The New York Times, in addition to Paramount Pictures.
